A short history

Farthing & Co. is a little corner of Britain, delivered to your door.

According to company legend, it all began with Wren Farthing — a rather particular Yorkshire shopkeeper with an excellent eye for sweets, strong opinions about chocolate, and the belief that choosing a treat should be every bit as enjoyable as eating one.

The truth is a little more recent.

Farthing & Co. was founded by Richard, who grew up in York, England, before eventually making his home in North Carolina. After years away from Britain, he found that while you could buy British chocolate and sweets in America, something of the experience was often missing.

So he decided to build the British sweet shop he wished existed.

One inspired by the old shops and crooked streets of York, filled with brilliant British chocolate and sweets, beautiful packaging, a little whimsy — and presided over, naturally, by the entirely fictional Mr. Wren Farthing.
